Gas Safety Certificate
A Gas Safety Certificate informs whether or not your gas installation is safe and ready to use. Although this document is not legally required, it is very useful to manage the relationships with insurance companies and in the court in case an accident happens.
Thus, when you have a professional checking your gas installation, it is very recommended that you ask for a document that states that the checks were done and the current condition of the installation. With this document, if anything should happen, you can justify everything was in order.
It is required if you are going to rent
While it is not mandatory if you are using the property yourself, you need it when you rent it to other people.
You have to have checked everything related to the gas that is on your property. This means that if the renter buys something for the kitchen that uses gas, the renter is responsible for that specific tool. However, we recommend being practical and having everything check, maybe even getting two separate certificates for each of the owners (for the tools and the property itself).
Make sure that the certificate you receive states the appliances tested, the condition of the appliances, safety issues and reparation of damages needed, and identification of both the expert that checked the installation, the property, and your name.
